PARK WANTED.

FENDALTON DISTRICT. A resolution passed by the Fendalton Burgesses' Association was received by the Waimairi County Council last night asking that the Council take early steps to constitute a Domains Board for the county, under which it will be possible to realise upon the five per cent, reserves in the Fendalton district, and apply the proceeds towards the purchase of a combined park and playing area for Fendalton. It was pointed out there was a growing need in Fendalton for the provision of a park, and the Association desired to take the necessary steps to secure what was practically the only remaining suitable area. The chairman, Cr. C. E. Cross, said that he and two members of the Burgesses' Association had interviewed Mr Stewart, Commissioner of Crown Lands, and he had stated if the Waimairi Council constituted itself a Domains Board it could dispose of the small reserves. The sum received would be in the vicinity of £2500, which could go towards purchasing a larger area. Cr. Scott said the small reserves were becoming a nuisance and something should be done. Cr. Walter said a better plan would be to impress on the members of Parliament the need for legislation to permit the sale of all small reserves. The county clerk said the Domains Board Act was hard to understand, and he doubted if it gave permission to realise on reserves. The matter was held over until further enquiries were made.
