SHORTAGE OF TRUCKS.
COLLIERY OWNERS COMPLAIN. (PRESS ASSOCIiTIOK TELEOHA3I.) WELLINGTON, July 9. The Minister for Railways (the Hon. Mr Taverner) remarked to a deputation to-day that the Department was not a storage organisation, but a transport concern. The deputation was from the Mineowners' Association, which complained that the collieries were working under difficulties owing to insufficient trucks being available. Mr Taverner was saying that enquiries had already been proceeding, and that part of the trouble was that the shipping interests had been a great deal to blame through holding up loaded waggons. He assured the deputation that the necessity for an improvement in the trucking system was recognised by him. The Estimates now under consideration by Cabinet provided for a considerable increase in the rolling stock. Some waggons were already being constructed, and he hoped this would be followed next vear by further increases. He agreed to make the investigation asked for by th* deputation.
