In the course of the letter Mr Roseveare stated: * I write to a»* whether your Presbytery, will bo willing to have one of the schools in Christehureh this year. . . . Ryburn spoke of tha proposal to send delegates to the conference on religious education which is to bo held at Canterbury College on September Brd-stn. T. Paterson, and Messrs Pilkington and Whitelaw were selected as representatives from the Presbytery. The following letter from the Rev. A. Milter (Westport) was received: "I than* you for your kind letter of sympathy with us in our earthquake trouble, which, as Moderator of the Christehureh Presbytery, you write to roe as clerk of the Westland Presbytery. I read the letter to my people yesterday and it was much appreciated. You are kino enough to ask if your Presbytery can assist in any way—which I take to mean financially. There has been extensive damage to property throughout our district, _ including church property. If our friends in Christchurch can send some funds to help in these repairs to church property damaged by the earthquake it will, I feel sure, be very acceptable. We had some severe shocks yesterday morning, but last night and to-day have been quiet, and we are hoping that we have now come to the end of our trouble*. On the motion of the Rev. X. I*. D. W«*»ter, seconded by the Rev. T. W. Armour, the Presbytery decided to send a cablaot sympathy to the mission station at Ambrym.
