FIRE BOARD.
SIONTHLY MEETING. The I'ire Board met last night. Present: Messrs J. E. Cameron (chairman), E. H. Andrews, T. H. Butterfield, H. R. Rnsbridge. and T. M. Charters. Apologies were accepted from Messrs K. W. Robinson and E. Parlane. The chairman's action in having repaired the chimney at the Woolston station, which was put out of alignment by the earthquake, was approved. It was explained that the seemingly high cost, £2l, was due to roof being of slate and the top of the chimney of rough-cast. The superintendent (Mr C. C. Warner) reported for the month that 21 calls were received —five actual fires, three chimney fires, eight malicious false alarms, three false alarms registered from auto installations, one false alarm given with good intent, and one for an outbreak in St. Martins (outside the fire district). For the period Jane 6th to July 3rd. the fire loss was £205. insurances involved £1350. and estimated values £2725. It was recommended that 1000 ft of 2}in fire hose should be ordered at Is 8d per foot, and that tenders be invited for the annual supply of uniforms. With reference to the proposed compulsory superannuation fnnd. it was suggested that the request should be granted that tv.'o members of the brigade should present their case at the Board's next meeting. Regarding this deputation the chairman suggested that it would be advisable to postpone consideration till there was a full atter.dance of members of the Board. It was decided to hold over the clause til! next meeting. The superintendent's report was adopted. The superintendent submitted proposed amendments of the brigade's by-laws, and these were referred to the executive to report upon at the Board's next meeting.
