REDUCTION IN EXPENDITURE

The Prime Minister, Mr Bruce, stated, after a meeting of the Council of Defence, that plans had been formulated for a substantial reduction in the expenditure on the Defence Department. It was not, however, proposed to do anything that would permanently injure any defence organisations or impair their efficiency in any material degree. —Australian Press Association.
