RUMANIAN PLOT FRUSTRATED.
CAROL'S ASPIRATIONS. REBEL OFFICERS ARRESTED. (USITXD PBES9 ASSOCIATION—BT ELECTRIC TELEGBATH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received July oth, 10.40 p.m.) BERLIN, July 9. A plot to kidnap the leaders of the Rumanian Parliament and to seize the Government offices, replacing the boy King Mihai with a military dictatorship, in the interests of Prince Carol, has been frustrated as a result of a dramatic raid yesterday on the ringleader's headquarters. In Bucharest and other towns 200 rebel officers were arrested. General Angelescu, ex-War Minister, instead of being dictator is now a prisoner in his own house. No news is allowed to be published in Rumania.— Australian Press Association. Ex-Crown Prince Carol, of Rumania, the son of King Ferdinand, renounced the Throne for the second time in 1926, when he took up residence in Paris with Madame Lupescu. His son, of hi 3 earlier marriage with Princess Helen of Greece, was proclaimed King of Rumania in 1927 on the death of Ferdinand. As King Mihai is a minor there is a Regency Council. In May, 1928, Carol visited England, but tho British Government took the view that his presence was undesirable and he was forced to leave, proceeding to Belgium. It transpired that Carol had abused English hospitality by going there while carrying out what "The Times" described as a "particularly fatuous intrigue," by which he hoped to obtain the Crown of Rumania, by a coup d'etat.
