Mrs Ben Howell, who has been paying a short visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs George Rhodes, "Beverley," has returned to Cave, South Canterbury. Mr and Mrs G. Leslie Rutherford and Miss Betty Rutherford (Maedonald Downs) have taken up residence in their house at Sumner tor some weeks. Mrs A S. Legh (Si. Andrew's square) has returned from Hanmer Springs. Her daughter. Mrs Archer Duthie. and her two children (Westport), are at present staying w;th Mis Legh. Mr and Mrs George Aitken (Feudalton) are leaving to-night for a holiday visit to Honolulu. Mrs Marshall (Wellington) is visiting Mrs Colin Marshall (Webb street). Mrs W. A. Moore, who has been visiting her parents, Sir Joseph and Lady Kinsey, returned to Timaru yesterday.

Miss Nancy Gibson (Fendalton) left yesterday for a visit to Mrs Pinckney, Glcnaray, Southland.

Mr and Mrs Peter Hall (Fendalton) are leaving to-morrow for a trip to Honolulu.

Bowing and smiling over an armful of lovely flowers at the Municipal Theatre last night. Miss Belle Renaut, soloist at the Christchurch Orchestral Society's concert, was a vivid, arresting figure in her becoming froci: of geranium red sreoreette, the straight bodice being finished at the waist with a spray of red and silver flowers, while the gathered skirt, falling in six long points over a silver lace underskirt, was weighted with rows of tiny picotedged frills. Miss Eileen Hughson, who, at short notice, acted as accompanist, wore an uncommon frock, with hodiee and hem of black crepe de chine and skirt of patterned crepe de chine in tones of amber orange and green. Intimation has been received from the District Public Trustee that the ] late Mrs S. A. Ensom has bequeathed ! to the Jubilee Memorial Home the sum of £SO. During the absence of the matron of the infectious diseases hospital, the assistant-matron, Miss Symon, has been carrying on, and yesterday's meeting of the Hospital Board decided that a letter be sent to her expressing appreciation of the manner in which she lias carried out her duties. At yesterday's meeting of the Hospital Board the Lady Superintendent reported the resignations of Staff Nurses Bascand and Tait, and Nurses Fraser. Garlick. and Edwards. Statf Nurse Wallace had been granted leave of absence to enable her to take her midwiferv training. Staff Nurse McCahon had resigned her position at the Ellesmere Hospital. and Nurse Duff had resigned the position as assistant nurse at Rotherham. Miss Lambie. Matron. Burwood Hospital, who <had been on prolonged leave, and during part cf which time she had acted as matron at the Cheviot Hospital will resume duty at Burwood on Julv Ist. KINCAID'S STAFF DANCE.

Ideal weather conditions prevailing, there was an excellent attendance Et Kincaid's sixth annual staff dance, held on Monday evening at the Winter Garden. Spirited music was supplied by the Bailey-Marston Orchestra. The excellent arrangements reflected great credit on the committee, comprising Messrs J. B. Tryon, W. Handle, and L. King (honorary secretary). The duties of M.C. were carried out by Messrs L. King and W. Randle. The guests of honour were Mr A. E. Kincaid (man-aging-director) and Mrs Kincaid, Mr Andrew Kincaid, Mr and Mrs W. Jackson, and Mr and Mrs R. A. Bagshaw. Before the supper interval, many amusing novelties were introduced. Novelty dances included the Monte Carlo (won by Miss Maybel Jackson and Mr F. J. Napper), and the Lucky Spot (won by Miss Ruby Hardy and Mr W. Mikkleson), and balloon and streamer dances. His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral Sir Charles Fergusson held an investiture at Government House, Wellington, to-night at which he conferred the honour of knighthood upon the Hon. Mr N'osworthy and invested him with the insignia of a Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George. His Excellency also presented insignia and decorations as follows:—C.M.G., Mr J. W. " CUP AND SAUCER " SOCIAL.

A very enjoynble "cup and saucer" social was held in the Beckenham Methodist Hall to provide crockery for the new church. A pleasant even ing was spent in games, competitions, and items, the lattei being provided by Miss Myra Edwards and the Rev B. Metson (recitations), and Miss Hurst (vocal solo). A dainty supper was dispensed by the ladies. Much of the success of the evening was due to Mr R*g. Mitchell, who acted very capably as M-C. Altogether, a total of nine dozen cups and saucers was received, the parcels being opened by Mrs B. Metson.
