ATTEMPTED BLACKMAIL.
MAN ADMITTED TO PROBATION. (F3WS ASSOCIATION TELXGRAH.) AUCKLAND, June 14. Claude Edgar Young appeared for sentence in the Magistrate's Court today on a charge of attempted theft following upon his conviction yesterthe police told the story ot how he had endeavoured to extort money by writing letters under a false twTne threatening to expose the doing* of his former employer. The Magistrate (Mr F K. Hunt; said the case was out of the ordinary. He had a report from the Probation Officer who thought that accused just wanted putting under restraint It was no use fining him as he could not par anything. Accused was admitted to probation for twelve months.
