ELLESMERE A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL REPORT. The annual meeting of the Ellesmere Agricultural and Pastoral Association is to be held at Leeston this evening. The balance-sheet gives the total income as £927 5s 6d, the chief items being:— Subscriptions £260, special prizes £147 ss, entries £233 12s 6d, gate £lll Bs. On the expenditure side the main item is £492 7s 6d, paid in prizes. The liabilities are set down as £239 14s, and the assets, apart from the showground freehold and improvements, £l9l 13s 6d, leaving an estimated deficiency of £4B 0s 6d. The report states that the overdraft is still over £2OO, and this is mainly accounted for by the falling off in the gate receipts and that an expenditure of nearly £SO was incurred in providing extra sheep pens. An effort is being made to collect the outstanding accounts. The annual show was held on October 18th the weather being wet for the first time for many years on a show day, and the attendance consequently suffering. The entries were the second highest on record. A fields competition was held, the grain section being enlarged to include barley. The entries in this section were comparatively good, but in the roots section they showed a decline. It will be for the incoming committee to consider whether these competitions are receiving sufficient support to warrant their continuance. The deaths are recorded of two prominent members, Messrs John Cunningham, a past-presi-dent, and W. J. Doyle, a member of the committee. Thanks are expressed to those who contributed to the welfare of the Association, to the donors of sr?c ; al prizes, and to the judges and other officials.
