IDLE MINERS.
ASSISTANCE PROMISED
(press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, May 7. Messrs J. M. Bnddelev and H. Knight, emissaries of the idle coal mine workers of tho northern district of New South Wales, to-day addressed meetings of the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union, the Seamen's I'nion, the Council of the Post and Telegraph Association, and the Council of the A.S.B.S. The visitors explained the position of the coal miners, and at the end of their addresses, resolutions were unanimously adopted to give financial assistance. The Seamen's Union agreed to give by way of a levy, one day's wages monthly, which would yield not loss than £IOOO monthly. The waterside workers also agreed .to levy themselves every P«y day while the struggle continues. In the case of the other two organisations, it was stated that they regarded the case that had been presenter! as a verv jnst one, and would recommend their members to give financial assistance.
