ELECTRICAL LEAKAGE?
EFFECT ON WATER PIPES. The Heathcote County Council alleges that electrolysis is being caused in the Cashmere district, due to leakage of electric current from the tramway tracks, and in a letter received at yesterday's meeting of the Christchurch Tramway Board, the Council drew the Board's attention to the matter. The General Manager, Mr Frank Thompson, stated that the Board's engineer had reported that the Government regulations provide that underground pipes should not be placed within 2ft 6in of the rails. The trouble was therefore due to the Council failing to observe the regulation. It was suggested that the Council should, give particulars of its pipes, as the "bonding" together of water pipes and the tram rails would get over the difficulty. . . ™ , , The chairman (Mr J. A. Flesher): The Council has taken its pipes too near the rails, and that is the cause of the whole trouble. It was decided to send a copy of the engineer's report to the County Council.
