PLUNKET SOCIETY. At a special meeting of the Committee of the Plunket Society arrangements were made for the annual meeting, at which Dr. Derrick will give an address. It was decided to provide afternoon tea. Mrs Morrin wrote resigning from the committee, as she had left the district. Nurse Allan reported a busy month, with the car running well. Band of Hope. The Band of Hope met on Friday night -with -44 young people present. Mrs Tilbrook introduced Mrs Douglas, who once again offered her services as leader. The programme was as follews:—Pianoforte solo, Dorothy Buzan; recitations: Harry Mantel!, Jack, and Lennie Scarlet; solo, Mrs Cameron; address, Major Powick. Open-Air Concert. The Temuka Municipal Band gave an open-air concert in the Temuka Domain on Sunday afternoon. The weather was beautifully fine, and there was a? good attendance. In connexion with the poll to bo held in the Waihaorunga special area of the South Canterbury Electric Power Board's district, the officials of the Board, with the chairman and local members, have been addressing meetings in various parts of the district, explaining the methods to be adopted by the Board before undertaking the loan and the reticulation of the district. A well-known resident of the Kapua district, Mr C. Olorenshaw, was met in the Amo Soldiers' Memorial Hall by a large number of residents of the district prior to his departure for England. The evening was spent in music and dancing, Mr C. Price providing the music and Mr P. McCrossau carrying out the duties of M.C Songs were contribute'd by Mrs Fitzsimmons and Mr P. Smith, the accompaniments being played by Miss H. Dugdale. At an interval in the proceedings Mr A. Kearton presented the guest of the evening with a, travelling rug on behalf of the residents of the district, and Mr C. Wright, on behalf of the Bine Club, handed him a safety razor. Mr J. Bitchener, M.P., presided at the annual meeting of the Hook Soldiers' Memorial Hall Committee. The report and balance-sheet, which were adopted, showed the finances to be in a, very satisfactory state. The Management Committee elected for the ensuing year was as follows:—Messrs H. H.' Meyer .and H. G. Rathgen ing the guarantors), and Messrs J". Bitchener, M.P., H. Mason, G\ Rose, G. Alexander; E. Penno, A. Kingsbury, and W. Richards. Mr J. Bitchener was re-elected chairman, and Mr W. Richards was elected secretary. A vote of thanks was passed to the Sports Committee, through whose efforts a further reduction of the debt on the hall had been made. Two members of the Ikawai Tennis Club, who are leaving the district— Messrs E. and A. Stewart—were tendered a social evening at the residence of Mr and Mrs N. Verity, when they were presented with a set of military brushes and a silver pencil respectively. Items were given by Miss Falloon, Mrs Veritj', and the Ikawai Orchestra.

The Waimate Returned Soldiers' Association's essay competition, "The Significance of Anzac," was won by Mar : gery Gillon, a pupil of the Waimate Primary School. There is not a great deal of interest being evinced in the election of three members to represent the combined Waimate Borough and the Waimate County on the South Canterbury Hospital Board. The sitting members, Messrs George Dash and William Geddes, with Mr J. T. Hay (who is replacing Mr T. Brown), are being opposed by the two Friendly Societies' candidates, Messrs J. Dempsey and M. Leonard. Mr and Mrs Eric Eastwood, who are leaving Lansdown, are to'be teudecrd a social evening and presentation by the residents.

At the monthly meeting of the Waituna Women's Institute at Mrs R. B.' Hurst's residence an excellent discourse on photography was given by Mr K.' Kippenbergor. An amusing competition,*guessing the originals of some old photographs, was won by Mrs R. Campbell. It was decided to hold the next meeting at Mrs Nash's residence. At the last meeting of the Waimate Ladies' Benevolent Society ten requests were received for assistance, all being granted. Mesdames S. J. Adams and G. Manchester were appointed visitors for the month. WINCHESTER. The match between the Winchester ladies' hockey team and Stafford A, of Timaru, which was played at the Winchester Domain on Saturday afternoon, resulted in a draw, each team scoring two goals. Mr L. Waters was referee. An accident occurred on the Win-chester-Orari road- during the fog on Saturday evening, when a collision occurred between a ear driven by Mr W. A. Reilly, of Winchester, and. a lorry driven by Mr C. Morgan. The car was badly knocked about, but neither of the drivers was injured. Mrs W. Norman was successful in winning Mr T. D. Burnett's prize of £5 for the lady attending the Orari Horticultural Show with the longest hair. The length -was 42i inches. PLEASANT POINT. The monthly meeting of the Town Board was attended by Commissioners Maze (chairman), Rendall, Blissett, Christie, Cartwright, Elms, and Wakefield. A subsidy of £lO7 was received from the Main Highways Board on main road expenditure. Seventeen applications were received for the oosition of working foreman, and Mr F. Popplewell was appointed! The Dol main Committee granted the football club permission to make a charge at a number of games during the present . season. Star A fourth grade played Pleasant Point at the Domain on Saturday. The visitors won by 33 points to 3. Mr Wakefield was referee.
