WAIKARI COLLIE CLUB.

ANNUAL TRIALS. The Waikari Collie Club's thirty-seventh annual trials were concluded on Saturday. The weather conditions were perfect throughout. The trials were held on the-grounds of Mr H. M. Anderson, which provided a natural amphitheatre, with the conditions necessary to demonstrate the ability of, he dogs: Mr W. Mather was judge, and his placings gave satisfaction. The general arrangements were under the capable management of the president, Mr. M. B. Forrester, whose experience of dog trials enabled a record entry, of 162 dogs to be dispatched in two and a half days, without a hitch of any kind. • Visitors and competitors were present from all parts of the South Island, and- tfie entry included some of the best known dogs in the Dominion. The results were as follows: — CLASS I—HEADING AND BRINGING BACK. About 600 yards. Time, 8 minutes. First prize £l2, second £5, third £2, fourth £l. MAIDEN HEADING AND BRINGING BACK. First prise £6 6s (given by Messrs D. McKay, A. Trumper, H. T. Little, and B. G. Dalgety), second prize £3, third £l. R. Innes' s Haig, 28 points .. .. _ 1 Cast to right, went out on a good line, and headed well in lmin 50sec. Lifted well and pulled back on good line. Let sheep out of. ring once and then held well under good command, completing in seven minutes. T. White's Lill, 27- points .. ..2

Cast to right, ran out rather wide, losing little timo heading. Lifted sheep somewhat, fast, and then made a good pull to ring. Completed in 6mm 40sec after holding sheep well in ring.

J. D. Lang's Roy, 26 points . . . . 8 After running out smartly and making a clean head, did not lift sheep well, allowing them to go off the course a little. Holding fair, under good command, and completed in smin 55sec. G. L. Rutherford's Mac, 25 points . . 4

Made a good run out and headed well in Imin 20see. Got off line a bit. with fair pull; held well in ring.. Time, 7min 50sec.

CLASS 2—HEADING, BRINGING BACK, AND YARDING. About 300 yards. Time, 10 minutes. First prize £ls, second £5, third £2, fourth £l. A. Salt's Coy, 28 points . . . . 1 • Cast to left. After a good run out headed sheep clean in lmin 40sec. Lifted sheep well and showing exceptionally good style at yards; penned under good command in 6min 30sec. J. Grieve's Nip, 25 points .. 2 Headed fast and clean in lmin ssec. Pulled nicely, with fair style at yards. Good command, and yarded in Smin lOsec. G. F. Croft's Spec, 24 points . . 3 Ban out well, but set sheep badly before heading in 2min 36see. Pulled very slowly on good line. Fair style at yards, and penned in 7min 45sec. P. Ballantyne's Bob, 23 points . . 4 Somewhat slack on run out and heading; pulled well and penned after several attempts. Other prominent performers were:—A. Trumper's Jack 22 points, and G. F. Croft's Roy 21 points. CLASS 3—HUNT-AWAY WITH SLEW, About 500 yds. Time. 8 minutes. First prize £l2, second £5, third £2, fourth MAIDEN HUNT-AWAY AND SLEW. First prize £6 6s (given by the president and Messrs H. T. Little and H. E. Fincham), second £3, third £1 (given by Messrs W. W. Mc«ae, C. White, and B. G. Dalgety). A. Turpin's Watt, 28 points .. .. 1 Took sheep away quielty through first set of poles in lmin 30sec. Let sheep slightly off course at first, then got through second poles in 6min 30sec. The dog worked well up to the sheep, nad was under perfect command throughout. R. Innes's Lloyd, 26 points . - . . 2 After letting sheep to right of first poles, got through in lmin 55sec. Missed second poles, but after heading sheep made a very clever recovery, and was through in Smin. Command good. Time, 6min S6aee. F. McAllister's Bruce. 23 points . . 3 Got stiff sheen, and had to force them all the i£ay. Working under good command, got through first poles in lmin 50see. and second set in 6min 40sec. Time called when dog had sheep in good position for top poles. MAIDEN. A. Turpin's All Smoke. 21 points . . 1 (Also fourth in open.) After showing fair style and working under rood command, passed through first poles in lmin 55see. and second in 6min 35see, bet time was called just before top poles were reached. L. Turner's Jock. 20 T>oi-nts .. 2 After passing through first poles in 2min 55sec, pot in a good kunt through second n©le<'as time was called. A Little's Pat. 15 points ..3 Striking a sticky lot of sheep, and showing 0( j s tvle and command, the dog forced the sheep to second poles as time was carted.

CLASS 4—HUNT-AWAY, HEAD, BRING BACK, AND HOLD. About 250 yds. Time, 10 minutes. First priie £lO (given by Mr G. L. Rutherford and members of the club), second £4, third £2, fourth £l. J. B. Gibbs's Joe, 27 points . . - . . 1 Hunted well, with nica turn at poles; pulled down well and held sheep under perfect command in ring. M. B. Forester's Jack. 26 points . . 2 Hunting fair. Put sheep well round poles. Pulled back in good line. P. Ballantyne's Bob, 25 points . . 3 Used very -little noise in bunting sheep up. and after letting sheep out too far in pull showed good work at ring. P. Mcintosh's Spring, 24 points . . 4 After a fair hunt let Bbeep back half-way up - the course, but brought back under good command and held sheep well in ring. WINNERS OP CUPS. Mr W.
