FIREBLIGHT.
CANTERBURY COMMITTEE SET UP. References were made to the existence of fireblight in the Kaikoura district at the meeting of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association on Saturday night. Mr F. W. Cone said that under the regulations, fireblight committees consist of five members. The Association had set up a committee of nine or ten members, and in view of the requirements of the regulations it would be necessary to have an election, or to re-nominate. Replying to a question, Mr Lone said he understood that only one fireblight committee was allowed in each district. „ „ ~ The chairman (Mr E. Freeman) said that Messrs Cene and Billson could be considered as representing the other Association. Several of those elected on the committee originally, withdrew their names The following remained on the committee:—Messrs E. Freeman, F. W. Cone, H. E. Morgan, G. E. Billson, and J. Jackson. Mr Billson asked if arrangements had been made to visit the infected in the Kaikoura district. Mr Cone said he had taken the word of Mr L. Paynter, Government Orchard Instructor, that there was no need to hurrv. No one had had time to go to Kaikoura. He asked Mr Paynter if he would arrange for the Mr Paynter said that in a.M probabilitv he would have to visit Cheviot and Kaikoura this week. Mr Cone said he was under the necessity of going to Wellington this week. , ~ .
