J. B. Priestley describes the new popular histories as bearing the same relation to decent historical work as a highly spiced and dubious rissole does to an honest joint of meat. Everything in them hns been cooked —several times over.
In a new series, entitled "Life and Work," leading representatives of the various professions will describe and discuss the nature and problems of their daily tasks.
The Bridgehead Historical Series, edited for Knopf by R. B. Mowat, J. D. O. Daviea, and F. E. Worts, is designed to bridge the gap between the condensed textbook nnd the authoritative treatise. It will run to twenty volumes.
The Cambridge University Press is arranging a new series in which the recent advances in eaeh of the provinces of physical chemistry will be collected, compared, and *a*ly»e4.
