CANTERBURY EXECUTIVE MEETS. I A meeting of the Canterbury Executive [ of the New Zealand Branch of the British Red Cross Society was held yesterday. There were present: Mr J. A. Flesher (chairman), Lady Wigram, Mrs H. H. Smith, Miss Guthrie, Messrs H. L. Bowker and C. J. Ronaldson. The chairman referred to the loss Mr R. H. Mitchell (auditor) had sustained in the death of his daughter. Miss Molly Mitchell, and on his motion a vote of condolence was passed in the usual manner. The financial statements showed that during the month of March 163 ex-service patients had received attention at Upper Sanatorium, Cashmere Hills, at Queeu Mary Hospital. Hanmer Springs, at the Rannerdale Home, at the Coronation Hospital, at the Mental Hospital, at the Christchurch Hospital, and as out-patients, and that the expenditure on clothing, tobacco, hospital requisites, extra food, motor hire, amusements, including grants to the various matrons for miscellaneous purchases had totalled £134 2s lid. In addition to the foregoing expenditure on Red Cross Club work, the cost of providing moving pictures, furnishings, cards. newspapers, books, magazines, and other amusements had totalled £63 lis 4d. Accounts were passed for payment as follows: Depot £139 15s 7d, general £7O 4s lOd. Mrs H. H. Smith, Miss Guthrie, Mr H. L. Bowker, and Mr W. E. D. Bishop were appointed to represent the Centre at the annual meeting to be held in Wellington to-morrow (Wednesday). the chairman having a seat as an ex-officio vice-president of the Society. It was resolved to recommend that the annual meeting in 1930 be held in Wellington, and the year following in Christchurch. On the recommendation of the medical director, Upper Sanatorium, an ex-patient. A. Crawford, was appointed as picture operator. In response to a request from the secretary, R.S.A.. it was decided to forward a wreath for the Anzac service, also a request for ticket* for the service. In response to a circular letter issued by the New Zealand R.S.A. with reference to the establishment of a home, colony, workshop, or institution to provide for the present and future welfare of ex-serviee men received from the Dominion secretary, the Depot Committee reported a letter had been sent to the secretary of the R.S.A.. Christchurch. stating that the Canterbury Patriotic Society was preparing a comprehensive schedule with the necessary information.
