Meteorological observation® taken at the Magnetic Observatory, Christchurch, at 9.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on ilarch 16th:

Forecast. The depression in the Tasroan Sea has deepened considerably. Anti-cyclones are centred near the Chatham Islands and Adelaide respectively. Freshening northerly winds reaching gale force in places may be expected and a southerly change setting in from the south after about 24 hours, and extending northwards gradually. Moderate but rising seas may be expected in New Zealand waters generally. In the Tasman Sea there will be strong northerly winds backing after about 24 hours to the west and south-west in the eastern Taeman, with rather rough seas. The weather will be cloudy generally with warm temperatures and rain setting in shortly in the northern and western districts and extending gradually to other parts. General rain is probable during the next two or three days.
