WELLINGTON T.C.

LOGAN PARK IN FORM.

NORTH ISLAND SUCCESSES.

The Wellington Trotting Qub held its second Summer Meeting of tit* season at Hatt Park oa Saturday, when there w»» a very good attendance of the publie. Weathe* conditions were disagreeable, a nor'-west gale throughout the afternoon reaching eiery nook and corner, and making matters unpleasant for spectator*, and especially so far the drivers oi herse* engaged. The «oarse was very hard and dusty, bat the strong wind prevented last times being r«gist«»«d. The totalieater investments anonmed to £85,404 a» »S» inst JiST.iaa last year. The fields in several events were small, and, considering this fact and the disagreeable weather conditions, th* tetalisator turnover reached satisfactory figures. NOTES ON THE RACING.

The ffebrnary Handicap found the Tald-hnrst-trsined Bafa mads * wy warn favourite, while Ambleside, Shirley McKirmey, Qang Awa', and Danny Boy were the others to carry tha confidence of the public from the start Nonsuit hit ths front and hs carried along at a good pace with Bafa, whe mad* a mistake early in second place, Gang Awa", Wild Goose, and Logan's Pride following in that ordar. Nonsuit was la front until • quarter of s r»ile from honao, at which stage Kafa and Logan's PrW«, ! ,ith „ B w s. ne of speed, rsced to the front. Halfway down the Vanning «»*» looked •**•■»•»>. »"»* h j» quite failed to withstand the challenge of Logan's Pride, who &£<*'* J» '«? *•***' mined fashion, with ZeHs h «W plaee. Logan'b Pride is a very promising sen by Loian Pointer from Miss Havee and trained i; S. Maidment »» >*•£ * a win again shortly. Bafa showed a lot of speed during the race, but at present is rather unreliable. Racing experience may improve him. Sonsuit went a good rsee fer a mile and a quarter, when ,° e /,»? e J ou » aßd Gang Awa', a three-year-old filly by PeterPointer, will yet make good Danny Boy made a poor showing, but Zella went quite a good race. An Outsider. The Select Trotters' Handicap found the field reduced by the withdraws! of Eliear and Trampfast, and Kempton was slightly better backed then B»PP7 Bosa; who had a good advantage in the betting over Sister Beatrice. Kenu-ton started slowly and quicklv went to a break, wbi.e Happy Roaa and Tiger Salve went a»«f m front from Kaplsnd. Happy Boss and Tiger oalve carried on the running for practieally the whole journey, and looked to have-matters to themselves in the straight. Nnpland, however, was never far away, and when the straight w*s reached he put in a convincing run that soon had the better of Happy ftoia. Tiger Salve stack to his guns, bat was no match over the later p3f't for Naplsnd, who showed something like his be*t old-time form. It was not a very interesting race, for Kempton was quickly out of eonrt and Sister Beatrice showed ao speed. Handicapped te do 3.26, the winner did not do anywhere near this' time, but he found eenditiens more suitable than did some of the others, i'or the second t'-m* in two attempts the betting public quite failed to sum up the position correctly.

Sasy for Logan Park. Lejan Park was only Bligfctty better mpported than Ahuriri in the Champion Handicap, for which there were rnsiy seven starters Jean McElwyn with her nsua! brillirn-e hooped out to take the lead and with haH a mile covered she had a good advantage ever Logan Park, who had begun better than any of th* others. Whil* Jean McEiwyn had to make all her own running. park was tucked in behind, having all the better of the running, while Ahnriri, from the back mark, was forced to cover a good deai of ground in a hold attempt to ealeh (he leader. Padlock stood on the mark, and Epigram was not hitting •« well en the hard traek. Jean Krllwyn wsj still in command as th* straight was reached, but half-way down the running Logan Park cam* with a great buret to win very comfortably. The race was run ov*r a distance that suited th* w*»»*t admirably, and o**r this Jonrnar he pro*** nndonatadly ennerior. Jean MeElwyn put *P » »*»n»* perfomane* fa* making th* »**• Mttait • i«ty strong wi»*

LoS s * Chief was a good way back in third place. some distance ahead of Ahuriri, who did n* l have things made easy for hitn during the running, JaoWe, Audubon want away » 11 r ' EUt ' bot ha nayer seemed likely f «»»»» •** trouble to the front dl-rision. Lacallj TrgtMi. W. J. Temkinson, with Rose Marie, r 1 ""' vided another favourite for the Waiwetn Handicap, and heayj support accorded GrandligiH. Red Rey, and Nelson Dillon nade op a good betting pool. For the third time daring the afternoon barkers were astray, for it was not leng beiore Halmore waa '* front and making every peat a winning one, hj« held kia own to the nniah. At one ttsge Halmore was folly fifteen length, ahead of Nelson Dillon, Cora Tacks, ited Kej. and Rose Marie, and it waa not until the la»t half mile that Gmadaght made a serious effort to overhaul the leßder. The three-year-old ra«d» a great attempt, and though he f&ilod to reach Halmore, he easily beat the remainder. Halmore it trained at Lov-tr Hull by J. V. Dyke, and. at tke last meeting he.'d at Wellington won and paid a huge dividend. On this oecasion, too, he paid a double-figure price. Halmore is a fine type of pacer, and stays Tell. Grand light's performance sMXiped him as a good one, and of the unplaced diviaien Nelson Dillon appeared the mott likely to win races in future. Kcse Marie finished fourth, but her showing was disappointing. Koasuit Wins. Kitfa was again entrusted with vt-rj-support in the Taita Novice Handicap, but once again he let his supporters down -adly. iVcnt the start Xonsitit, who had performed in promising jaauioo earlier in th« day, took the lead, and he was never headed. Mentor, El Direct, Brent Zolock. and Go*Jon Morn followed the leader, while Roger Lyon, who did not enjoy tha beat of luck in the runr.JEi,, made cp his ground in good styleWith two furlongs to go Ambleside, who had been badly placed ia tha early stages, put in » a*«*t run from tha back of the field, and halfway down the running ha threw out ft raoet determined challenge. Nonsuit, however, stuck to his work like a tradesman, and R B. Bern had only to shake the whip at hint to land him a most impressive, winner by a length. Nonsuit has dona very little racing, but he is rather a good sort of pacer that should win further ra*ea for hla Christehnrcfc owner, Mr F. W. Johnston. He made all W» own running, and look* as though He might win over a longer distance. Ambleside in running aaoond put up a very impressive performance, and but for meeting with interference over lae first part he certainly would have further extended the winner. By Author Dillon—Pleasant Driva he is a haH-broth«r to good uerformora in Dalnanina and Dalmeny. and ha may turn out just as good. Roger Lyon raced gamely, hat without any luok, wbiM there was noth. ing verv impressive about the doings of Danny Boy, Grace Hnon, or Shirley SfoICiftne?.

Aa Auckland. Win. The withdrawal of Kemp ton and Happy Ro%« left only aix atartara in the Armstrong Handicap, but it waa a really good betting r»ce, Trampfaat, the favourite, carrying 1773 tickeW, while Napland was the only or.e entrusted with less than IOOu investments. Rlrear disappointed her connexions by refusing to go away, and sh« tooic no |.art in tbo race, while. Tiger Salve, followed by

NapUod, %\ once made the pace, with Sitter Beatrice, Tramp fast, and Moneyspidsr well back. When half the journey had been covered Trampfast piada & forward move and passed, both Sister Beatrice ami Napland, Bat be was • till & long; way behind Tiger Salve. In the back stretch Trempfast, trotting sojidly, leeseped the gap by a good deal, but be <h still eome lengths to tb« bad as the straight was reached. Halfway down the running Trawpfast appeared a like> winner, but though he made a great effort he just failed to reach Tiger Salve before the pof* was passed. It was a very exciting finish between the pair, and the exhibitions of trotting e-iven by both the winner and runner-up was aa good as has been seen on the ooorse. T.-a«npf»et. it seemed, was not made quite enough use of in the first mile, with the result that Ya was set »p almost impoeaible tafk over (he last half-mile. The time, allowing for the gale that was blowing, was very good. Tiger Salve, bred in Australia, ta a good solid trotter, and his driver, IX. Kiocinwont, wok full advantage of his handicap, keeping rp a strong paoe throughout and making the others keep up to their work. Trampfast by his effort pleased the crowd immensely, abd a few mora exhibitions like those gives by him and the winner will quickly bring the unhoppM trotter into its own, Napland want another good raoe and gained third mooey, but Eliear's failure to leave the mark robbed the race of a lot of interest. Sjster Beatrice again failed to pot arty dash into her work, and Moneysptder, though trotting solidly, never looked like a winner.

A Dead Bt«t. Jean McElwyn, on the strength of her good showing earlier in the day, waa made a better tavowrite than Aburiri and Black Admiral for the Palmer H»n<iic»p. which •proved a good betting tin, Blaok Admiral, (n hie usual brilliant fashion. *t ence took tip tha rolo of pacemaker, and h* onirkl? ni»rl a Rood break c* f.nlpratn and .Team JW?!»r«, while Loffan Park, »<»n*H»ed 2* va'ds, was a lobb "ay book. WitV TiWlf a mile covered Black Arfmlft.l, Je*n VrWwn. Jaokia Audubon, and EpigTara was the order, and it was unchanped until »hre« furlongs from home, who Logan Park commenced a i aiartrie run, which landed him in serrmd t>Jae» a* the straight vu reacted. The Lo-ran Pointer pacer mitde. a further effort a hundred yards fresn the prat, and under the whip manured to draw on Blaek Admiral. Just a* the pair paa«»>d the poet the sutkies ©ollitled. and one of the t«re« of Lopan Park's sulkv vu ripped off. The jndge gave it a dead-heat, but Edwards, driver of Bl*ok Admiral, is positive that ha woo by a neck, and thi» was the generallyaccepted version. It waa an exciting finish, with th« dead-heatera well out from the others. Jean McElwyn evidently fell th» effect* of her earlier race, and Epigram and Jackie Audubon again gave unconvincing displays.

The rinal Flatter. The Att Revoir Handicap waa a jx»r ra=«. lor after Red Rey had assumed the lead Zellft racad to the front and quickly slowed the field down, Kith Kelson Dillon, Riebore, and Halmore following in that order. fcella then dropped back, but half a mile from (tome she rushed away from the field, *"d went on to win very easily from Red Rf?, who, driven hard over the lout half-mile, got up to beat Nelson Dillon, a useful sort of pacer. The winner's effort waa distinctly pleasing, and Red Rey proved V.imrelf a good game pacer. Ttichore and TCalmnre «*nt unsteadily and Star Lady waa never dangerous.
