m ■ —• — \ GONG OF WIG-WAG. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELSOP.AH.) DAXNEVIBKE, February 13. A theft unique in the history of New Zealand was perpetrated in Dannevirke (m Monday. After much agitation the railway au- | thorities recently installed a wig-wag warning signal at the Allardiee street | railway crossing, the scene of several - accidents. The bell had such a sonorous tone that it disturbed the peace of the whole neighbourhood. On Monday evening last a letter on behalf of residents asking for the abatement of the nuisance was before the i Borough Council, who deputed the Mayor to confer with the authorities, but some unauthoris?d person got in first by removing the gong of the apparatus, which is now effectively silenced. The matter is in the hands ox the police.
