EPIDEMIC IN U.S.A. \ ALARMING NUMBER OF DEATHS, (USITED PRBSS ASSOCIATION—BY BLSCTJUO TELEGRAPH— COPYRIGHT.) WASHINGTON. December 27.. Nearly 2000 persons died of influensal or pneumonia in 78 of the larger American cities last week. The Commerce Department reported that beginning with'6oß deaths in these cities for tho. week ended November 3rd, the list J>"» grown weekly until it Las reached th« total of 1982 for the week ending December 22nd. , . Reports disclosed that lnnuenw, caused 710 deaths and pneumonia W In the meantime the United State* Public Health Service has reported, 240.562 new influenza cases in 39 State* for the same week.
