' ' Yesterday's registrations were: 'Married men, 1 20; single,,?;'total, 27. .Two men -'wore placed,' 'in private employment. . i ' ' ' , The City ' Engin'eer' (Mr A. E. : Galbraith) anticipates ,that_ about Christmas the ' financial made by the City Council for the relief of unemployment will be exhausted, arid most of the men employed on Tclief works will have to be put off. _ At present the names of about..sixtj returned soldiers who arc smelting employment arc 011 the books of the Returned Soldiers' Association, and yesterday about s'ixteen men called atr the office to enquire about work. The secretary of -the .E.S.A. says that unless some of these men can be placed in employment for at least a fortnight before Christmas the position will be very serious. Many of the men who had been giveii casual work in the past had given great satisfaction to_ those who employed them.
