The preliminary announcements regarding the brilliant genius of Margaret Bannerman had the effect of attracting a very large anil very representative audienco to her first Christchurch appearance at. the Theatre Royal last evening, and the occasion proved one of the most notablo in local theatrical history. That "Miss Bannerman is justly entitled to be ranked with the best and most charming actresses on the English-speaking stage, she proved during the first act of "Other Men's Wives," and throughout the performance her perfect artistry in the comedv and dramatic scenes was a perfect joy. Miss Bannerman's success was spontaneous and instantaneous, and the final fall of the curtain was the signal for a remarkable display of enthusiasm.
