SATURDAY'S SPEED CARNIVAL.
NEW BRIGHTON TROTTING GROUNDS. As the convincing day draws nearer. for deciding the much-debated question as to who is best entitled to the honour of being acclaimed New Zealand's "speed king," speculation becomes more rile, .and whilst it 1b generally admitted that the claims of such riders as Arnott, Managh, Morgan, Wilkinson, Ranby, Toiler, Southward, Leech, and Kilmister, from the North Island, may be folly justified, there are not a few who pin their faith on the capabilities of the South Island trio, Hore, Carter, and Riley. Quite a strong contingent had a try-out on the 'deciding arena last evening, when some excellent times were recorded. The track was found to be in splendid order after the heavy rain of Tuesday night, and by Saturday should again be as level as a bowling green. Special trams will run to and from the grounds during the afternoon. The first event is timed to start at 3 o'clock and the last at 4.40.
