SHIPPING NOTES. The ferry steamer Maori is the only projected departure to-day. The Cygnet arrived last evening from Kaikoura and Wellington. She is now to sail on Monday for Kaikonra and Wellington. The Kahika is to take in cargo here tomorrow for Napier and Gisborne. zShe sails in the afternoon for Wellington. The Holmdale should arrive to-morrow from Timaru to load for Wellington and Wanganui. The Kennedy should arrive to-morrow from the north. She loads to-morrow for Foxton direct. The Gale is an expected arrival on Sunday from Dunedin and Timaru. She is to load on Monday for Wellington and, Wanganui. The Corinna should to here on Tuesday from the south, and sails the same day for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth. The Kurow will load at Lyttelton to-mor-She is due this morning. The Manuka 6hould arrive here on Thursday next from Melbourne, via Bluff and Dunedin. She is to sail the same day for Wellington and Melbourne. The Hertford is an expected arrival today from Wellington. She has a largo ipmount of cargo from West of England ports for discharge. . She is due at Wellington to-morrow night. The Port Darwin left Timaru at 5 a.m. on Tuesday for New Plymouth, having been delayed at the former port by strong winds. She was due at New Plymouth on Wednesday afternoon to continue loading. The Canadian Conqueror arrived at Auckland at 1 a.m< on Tuesday from Wellington to complete loadine. The Tofua, which left Auckland at 11 a.m. on Saturday last for Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa, was due at Suva yesterday. The Waipahi, from Auckland, arrived at Suva on Tuesday, and sho was to sail yesterday on the return trip to Auckland. The Makura, from Sydney, left Wellington at 3 p.m. on Tuesday for San Francisco, via Rarotonga and Papeete; and is due at Rarotonga to-morrow. The Maunganui left San Francisco on October 31st for Sydney, via Papeete, Rarotonga, and Wellington. She is due at Papeete to-morrow, at Rarotonga on November 13th, and at Wellington on November 19th, and will leave on the following day for Sydney. News has been received by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Oompany that their liner Oorinthio arrived at Southampton on Saturday afternoon from Wellington, en route to London. The vessel left Wellington on September. 26th.

The laying of the keel of the third 33,000ton turbo-electric liner which is being built by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company for the Panama Pacific Line took place last month at Newport News on the same ways from which the second o£ the ships, the Virginia, was launched on August 18th, according to advices received by the agents of the International Mercantile Marine Company, which owns the line. The new vessel will be a sister ship of the California, which entered the coast-to-coast service of the Panama Pacific ' Line ' last January, and of the Virginia, which is scheduled to leave New York on her maiden trip on December Bth. It is the third unit in the most extensive building, programme ever undertaken under the American flag by a private shipping company. These three liners are the largest ever built in an American yard, and the world's largest commercial vessels with electric propulsion.
