Major Forrest Lindsay (London) is Maying at the Grosvenor Hotel. Mr C. E. Kerr, who hap been on an extended tour abroad, returned to Timaru yesterday. Angling. During last week-end and early this week some very good catches have been reported. Three anglers fishing in the Pareora River secured the full quota of fish, and several other fishermen landed in the vicinity of ?*frenty fißh. .Owing 1o the heavy rain last week, all the rivers were discoloured, but at present the majority of them have cleared, and are in excellent fishing order. A welcome was extended to Sister Thelma Kelly and P.G. Bro. George Emerson, official visitors from the adult Lodge. Ono candidate was initiated. The visitors' toast was honoured, and several expressed pleasure at the progress the sisters were making. Town Clerk Resigns. The special meeting of the Timaru Borough Council, which opened on Monday night, for the.purpose of connidering office administration, was continued yesterday. The Mayor (Mr G: J. Wallace) presided. The question arose through the traffic inspector (Mr C. H. Newcombe) forwarding the following letter under date, October 11th:—"I shall be obliged if you will kindly define my duties as traffic inspector under the Town Clerk (Mr 0. G. Machattie), as I would like to know exactly how I stand, and I would esteem it a favjiur if you will bring this matter up at to-night's committee meeting, which I will attend.". The meeting was not "held till Monday, October 29th, owing to the' indisposition of the Mayor, and the matter was brought up again last Monday. On the motion of Cr. P. B. Foote it was decided, "That the traffic inspector be informed that he is an officer under the Town Clerk, and that he' Tvill take his instructions from the: Town Clerk for the time being." From this matter the . question of oißee administration arose, and Cr. Footo moved: "That the Town Clerk's resignation be accepted, to take effect on April 30th next, and that hp be given three months' leave of absence from February Ist on full pay. Should be desire to relinquish his duties before February Ist. then the three months' leave of absence shall take effect from gueh earlier date." The motion was carried.
