BOROUGH COUNCILS.
KAIAPOI. The fortnightly meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was held last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr H. O. Revell), and Ors. H. Mcintosh, F. Thome, E. J. Pollard, J. D. Williams, W. H. A. Vickery, A. Linklater, and D. Whyte. ' The secretary Kaiapoi Beautifying Association, wrote advising that the Association was agreeable to the purchase of an electric pump for watering the war memorial garden provided the Council would refund half the cost out of next year's estimates^ It was decided to accept the Association'! offer. The organiser Canterbury Progress League wrote advising that the Council's application to the Highways Board for a £3 to £1 subsidy towards the cost of permanent pavement of the main highway through the borough, had been considered -at the conference of county councils and the Automobile Association and had received unanimous approval and support. The League was making representations to the Highways Board on the subject. It was decided to thank the League for the interest it had taken in the matter. The secretary. Kaiapoi School Committee, wrote asking if the Council still intended to give the school children the sports or picnic as suggested to commemorate the Kaiapo' borough jubilee. A committee comprising Crs. .Vickery, Pollard, and Williams, was appointed to con fer with the School Committee and teaching staff. ... Mr P. W. Freeman wrote forwarding survey plans of Kairaki for the Minister of Lands approval, and for the Council s record and reference.' The letter was received. The enginere-secretary North Canterbury Power Board wrote advising that the Board intended to supply electric power to Messrs Wilkie. A. Forrest, and M. Forrest at present supplied by the Council, as these three consumers were residing in the Board s area near the borough boundary. The letter was referred to the Lighting Corriznlttee. . , . The Under-Secretary Department of Internal Affairs, wrote with reference to the Government authority for expenditure in connexion with iubilee celebrations, and advised that provision relative to the matter was contained in Section 41 of the Local T.eirislation Act. 1928. The letter was received. The financial statement showed receipts £357 Os lid. debit bank balance £1627 Is 2d, accounts for payment £3lO 10s Bd.
