A sidelight is thrown by a Chineso news agency on the present impasse regardihg the settlement of varioiiß outstanding Sino-Japanese questions} for example, the Nanking incident of 1927 and tariff treaty revision. The agency declared that Japan demands: First, the exclusive right to the con- . structioh of tailwdya and the opening of mines in Manchuria and Mongolia J Second, recognition of Japan's right to control the Kaiohow—Tsirtan railway as a guarantee for the purchase of said railway from Japan, which was seized by the latter from Germany during the war. , Regarding tariff atitonomV, Japan 18 reported to be demanding the enforcement of a provisional tariff schedule covering special ' products t imported from Japan. Enforcement is proposed of a tariff .schedule adopted by the special tariff conference held at Peking recently, and recognition of various scheduled loans to northern militarists, including Chang Tso-lin. ... ..
