ETNA IN ERUPTION.
VILLAGE THREATENED.
(united press association— by electric telegraph—copyright.) ROME, November 4. Following heavy rain storms Mount Etna has become active from a large crater made by the' 1865 eruption. A lava stream a mile wide is advancing on the village of St. Aliion, devastating forests en route Century-old trees are flaring up like matchwood. Isolated farm 9 on the mountain side have been, evacuated and the inhabitants of the threatened village are ready to flee at any moment. Mount Etna's lava streams are now six miles long. The whole of its 2000 inhabitants have evacuated St. Aliion. —Australian Press Association.

ROME, November 5. . Fontanazzo, with 2000 inhabitants, is threatened with destruction by a lava stream eleven kilometres wide, which is advancing at the rate of 200 yards an hour.—Australian Press Association.
[Mount Etna is on the east coast of the island of Sicily, forming a nearly isolated cone, with the Mediterranean on the east and on the other sides the rivers Simeto and Onobello. Its slopes are divided into three regions, # the lava region, containing elegant cities and villas, the wooded region, and the upper region, in which rises the principal crater.]
