MAINTENANCE CASE.
HUSBAND'S BIG ARREARS,

DUNEDIN, November 5. In the Police Court today Charles Henry Lord admitted being £748 2s in arrears in respect to a Christchurch maintenance order. Mr O. J. Cooke appeared for defendant's wife. Defendant stated that he was a salesman working on a commission basis. He had been in Australia for ten months and while there had tried to get into touch with his wife with a view to making a fresh start. . Mr Cooke said that defendant had sold up his house and had left his wife and • three children with nothing. He had made no effort to pay, and it seemed that he had gone to Australia without the consent or knowledge of the P °The arrears over £IOO were remitted and defendant was • sentenced to six months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended as long as he pays £2 a week current maintenance and 03 a week off the arrears. A further condition was that he should report twice a week to the police.
