SYDNEY TUBE RAILWAY.
UNDER AUSTRALIA'S FIRST FARM.
(IBOK OOTI OWM COBBBSPOJfUMre.) SYDNEY, October 26. When, in its serpentine course round the city, the underground railway thunders along under Sydney's Botanic Hardens it will be passing under the site of Australia's first farm. It is because of this interesting Mstorical fact that Farm Cove, immediately at the foot or the gardens and overlooking the harbour, is known as such to-day. . One of the first things Governor Phillip had to think about, after the landing of the historic first fleet, was the question of feedine his little community. Phillip had cleared of timber all the ground in the neighbourhood, and had it planted with fruit trees which he had brought out from Rio de Janeiro, and sown with seed. It was not long after that Phillip triumphantly reported that he had eight to ten acros in wheat and barley. Thus, what was Australia's first farm is to be the site, well out of sight, of Australia's first underground railway.
