CHOICE BASKETWARE.

ROTARY CLUB'S STAND ON SHOW GROUNDS.

TO ASSIST THE BLIND.

Stand No. 40, on the left of the main entrance to the Addington Show Grounds, should attract much attention on Friday, People's Day at the Show, for the Christchurch Eotary Club will make a display of basketware, made by the inmates of the Institute for the Blind, at Auckland, and all the goods on exhibition will be for sale. Eotarian C. E. Jones, who organised a similar display and sale at last year's Show, was in Auckland recently, and made a special visit to the Institute for the purpose of selecting the class of basketware calculated to attract buyers at the Show. Amongst the goods selected were luncheon and picnic hampers of all sizes, suitable for V.otorists; baskets of all descriptions, dolls' prams, nut baskets, clothes baskets, soiled linen baskets, trays, and novelties in basketware of every kind. To meet the convenience of purchasers arrangements have been made to deliver goods purchased at the stall if the buyers cannot take their purchases with them. Eotarian Jones was much impressed by what he saw during his visit to the Institute. The premises at Parnell are new, and are kept scrupulously clean. The workshops are equipped with the most modern machinery, and it is simply wonderful to see how the blind handle the machines. In connexion with the Institute there is a showroom in which there is on view samples of the workmanship of the inmates, of whom there are about one hundred.

The stall at the A. and P. Association's Metropolitan Show at Addington is the method whereby the Christchurch Eotary Club gives its assistance to a cause so worthy. The proceeds will be handed to Mr Clutha Mackenzie, the Director of the Institute. At last year's Show the Eotary Club, with the co-operation of the public, made a clean sweep of all the basketware on exhibition, and it is hoped this year to repeat that gratifying performance with the sympathetic support of the visitors to the Show.
