PRICE OF ISSUE RAISED.

The Australian Loan Council has decided to increase the price at which Commonwealth 5} per cent, stock and bonds, with currencies of seven and fourteen years, are being issued by State Treasuries for the conversion of maturing State securities, according to a statement by the Federal Treasurer (Dr. Earle Page). The higher price, which is £99, as against £97" 10s —the issue price for the past few months —will be charged from October 25th, and will also apply to new cash investments made at each State Treasury. Dr. Page said the Loan Oouncil was unanimously of the opinion that the improved conditions in the money market justified its decision. For many years it has been the practice of all the State Treasuries to carry on counter saleß of State securities throughout the year, with a view to securing new cosh for loan purposes. In addition, the States have from time to time been arranging for the conversion of maturing State loans into new State securities. .The financial agreement between the Commonwealth and the States, which came'into operation at the beginning of September, provided for the continuation of these counter sales of securities and conversion operations by the States, subject to the issue of Commonwealth securities in all cases. It was_ in these circnmstnnces that fhe States directly commenced the issue of Commonwealth stock and bonds. The present review of the terms for the issue of these securities has been made by the Loan Council in accordance with the provisions of the financial agreement.
