RANGIORA. The Town Hall was well filled on Friday night, when the three-act comedy, "Jane," was presented by Mrs W. E. Barton and her talented party of local amateurs, in aid of the local W.E.A. and R.S.A. The acting throughout was of very high order, and the highest praise must be paid to Mrs Barton, Miss Betty Hughes, Messrs Geo. March Geo. Mehrtens, and J. Johnston. k. The fifty-sixth anniversary of John Knox Church was celebrated yesterday with special services, at which there were large congregations. The Rev. •W. Bower Black occupied the pulpit in the morning and the Rev. W. R. Hutchison in the evening. At the previous service the choir rendered the anthem, "0 How Amiable are Thy Dwellings," and the musical part of the evening service included the anthem, "The Dnv Thou Gavest," and the solo, "Thanks be to God/' sung by Miss E. Scott. Mr G. Gibbs Jordan was organist. In the afternoon the Rev. Bower Black gave a helpful o"ui ins P'" n K address at a rally of the Bible Classes connected with the church, at which there was an attendance of about fifty young people. Mr A. J. Ferguson, leader or one of the young men's classes, presided. The meeting was followed by tea in the Orange Hall. '

AKAROA. A public meeting on Friday evening to make arrangements for the Sanders Cup contest, to be held here in February, was largely attended. Mr F. Davis, president of the Boating Club, reported that the boat sheds would be available for the use of the contestants. The meeting decided to hold an outboard motor race for a cup presented by Mr W. T. Lester. A general committee of 20 was appointed, with Mr P. S. Riches as secretary. Messrs W. B. M. Jacobspn, B, W. Henning, F. R. Davis, E. J. Kingston, and Geo. Whelch were appointed an executive committee. A subcommittee was appointed to attend to accommodation. A programme of other events will be deoided at another meeting to be held shortly. Mr M. A. Johnson, who has been in hospital for some weeks, has im- § roved greatly during the last few ays.
