SCARLET FEVER.

TO the editob or THE press. s . Sir, —"Parent" has my sympathy, though I doubt if he or she will getany satisfaction from writing to th© papers. There have been other letters on the same subject, and 1 myself wrote .one months ago, but. no notice has been taken. I think "Parent" may safely conclude that no preventive measures are being taken, or we parents should naturally be the first to., bear about them. We were told the epidemic would decline in October, but it has not done so. If the number, or cases dropped one week it went up with a bound the next. The only time when there were fewer cases was during the school _ holidays, and I suppose the authorities are 1 blissfully thinking that if it goes on until Christmas, the holidays will perhaps check it. It will never be checked while children crowd to the pictures. Some careful parents may take endless precautions, and .then if their child contracts tue disease through someone else's carelessness, there are hospital bills to be met, and the dangerous effects of the disease on the child himself I have found the use of antiseptic tablets a very great safeguard, though, of course, tney aro expensive. The child can keep one in his.mouth for a long time, and is much easier than gargling, which most children hate. ■ I have used the tablets ever since the start of the epidemic. Perhaps the only way to check the epidemic successfully would be to keep all our children away from school P—Yours, ■ ANOTHER PARENT.
