Tho Holiday. Some hundreds of holiday-makers visited Lyttelton yesterday, the Railway. Department running several extra trains, in the morning and dVening. . Diamond Harbour received its fair share of patronage, and there was a very large crowd at Corsair Bay. Charteris Bay, where the Lyttelton Golf Club's closing day was being held, also attracted a large number of golfers and visitors. Salvation. Army Picnic. Mombers and supporters of the Lyttelton Salvation Army Corps entertained the visit-, ing bandsmen from Ashburton at a picnic at Diamond Harbour yesterday. The party numbered about sixty, and were conveyed across in a. special launch. Games occupied the greater; part of the day, and tho visitors left for Ashburton in tho evening. Yacht Club Picnic. The' Canterbury Yacht and Motor-Boat Club opened its season with a picnic at Diamond Harbour yesterday. Various, craft, under sail and power, conveyed the members across the harbour. Games wero held, and luncheon and afternoon tea were served. The club will open the racing season on Saturday week. Lyttelton Golf Club. After a very successful season the Lyttelton • Golf Club closed down yesterday. There was a large attendance. of members, visitors from other clubs, and friends. Notwithstanding the lateness of the season, the courso was still in good order. In the morning a mixed Canadian foursome was playod, and during tho afternoon driving, approaching, and putting competitions wero held. ■ In making tho presentation of prizes won by members during the season the president, Mr Orton Bradley, commented upon the -Ihi-'" ! .proved play of a number of the younger members and the keenness exhibited during the season by all of the players to, reduce their handicaps. Ho complimented F. Knights, the men's senior champion, and'' the lady senior champion, Miss ID.
