"THE HAWK'S NEST." DRAMA OF THE UNDERWORLD. J.VfcKYBODY S TIIEATKr. •■■} li t . Haul's N>»t" is the main attractiou at Everjbody's Theatro this week, and is * inj:!ery .irarna of a most intriguing kind. Ai (he scene is laid in a Chinatown difctrict .ri Aimri'-a, where yarning clubs are fre-<juent-d by gamblers and thieves and worse, t!i« i-roduccri have a weahh of underworld i liar»'.t"r'i with v.liich to colour tlm story. It u a rr."«t j.Tippiug tain, and the interest is ielri right uj> tiil the final n-ene. D»u Dougherty (Montagu l.ove) is a ;»u?ct"'r. au.j owni- a low-down liipht club ii. * i.'binesc district. In company with J-fidrlon Anion, ho visits "The Hawk's Sffa caft- c! a similar nature, bis mission beiuy to try ai,d find out the real owner, who it luiowu a> "The Jlawk" (Milton Sills). Dougherty couvfrj-cs with James Kent, manager of "The Hawk's Nest," and then goes into bis office vhcre lie sees his competitor, who lias a horribly disfigured face, caused through tbe war. ile offers to buy him out, but the Hawk refuse. 1 -, and Dougherty sets out to get his revenge. To ; create excitement Kent fires a few shot? into the air, and in the ji)ix-U[> Dougherty tboots an employee, whom he taw dancing with Madclou. Kent _ is arretted and sentenced to death. Determined to ta>'!» his friend, a plastic etirtrical operation enables th- Iluwk to revisit his old baunti v.ithout recognition, and taking the r.BtDP of J'incbley bo gets into the confidence nf tb- san; leader and the !»tt«r Till rot reveal who fired tho fatal ■hot. Lvrnts move 6wiftly in Chinatown. Dougherty is beride himself with fear, and rallr in "»b« aid of Fiucbloy, who reveals i<!b true identity. In dire fear, Dougherty blamed Madelon tor the murder. The Chin*tm, who aro friends of Kent, have ' been agisting him to get his release, and with the «id of the Hawk. Dougherty is induced to admit hi" guilt, linchley finds an added interest in Msdelon. A* "Tbe Hawk" and I'inchley, Milton Sills is fplendid. He carries off his double »baracter!< to perfection, and always looks the "man of mystery." As tbe cabaret dancer Doris Konyon looks and acts the part. Montagu Lovo has the "heavy" part o£ Dougherty. "Good Timp Charley" is a drama of stage life, and has for tho leading characters a 'lUtrlette of players which would be hard to eclipse, being Helena Costello, Warner Uland, Clyde Cook, and Montagu I,ove. The atory describes the serio-comic _ lifo of a i-mall-towa Jong and dance man, his pal and orphaned daughter, who becomes a great actress. Charley's star wanes as hers rises, and s series of unexpocted events carry him down a pathetic slope until he lands in the Artcra' Home. How his daughter finds him on her return from Kurope, and takes bim in litr care, makes a strong climax. Warner Oland plays Charley, and as the daughter Hosita, Helene Costello is fascinating. Tho orchestra, under the able conductorship of Mr Albert Bidgood, rendered a most iiitfreettrig atid enjoyable programme of inufic, tho chief numbers being: Overture, '•l'oloDaise" (Chopin); suites, "Willow I'iate" (Herbert), "Sfyrtles of Damascus" (K : Vd>"i), "Traum" (Richter), "Coppelia" oiaeni"), "Masked Ball" (Verdi), and ' .'Sells Across tho ile.tdow" (Ketelby).
