The race is run over a mile journey at weight-for-age, with allowances. Fihsbury is a half-brother by St. • Alwyne (sire of Poitrel) to Valamita, and is owned by Mr Ben Chaffey. The Banker, \who has not raced for some time, is owned by Mr Otway R. Falkiner. After the V.R.O. raoes on the same day Finsbury and Burnaby were mentioned in doubles for the two Cups, but it js not known: whether the move was stable-insoired.. The horses are owned by Mr Ben Chaffes, and are engaged in the Caulfield" Cut) as well as in the ■Melbourne Cup. Finsbury ran in the Caulfield Cup last year, but he did not finish in the first ten. TROTTING NOTES. Acceptances for the New Brighton T.C's Spring Meeting close on Tuesday. j Acceptances for the "Wellington Spring Voting must be made by Wednesday aext. *'" J«A M<:ond Payment (2 sovs.) for the iftfc. Metropolitan Trotting Club's New Derby Stakes, 1928, is due by "awon to-day. Nominations will be taken up to the same time for the Derby Stakes, 1980. Last year the Auckland Cup was open to horses that had done 4.31 or - better, although, the handicaps fox the race were worked out on a 4.28 basis. The Auckland Club has made a big improvement this year in making eligible only those horses that have done, or have been handicapped to do, 4.27 or better. This is only one second, slower than the class for the New Zealand Cup and the stake amounts to 2200 sovs besides a gold cap valued at 100 guineas. The Bowe Handicap, for unhoppled trottera is still valued at 1000 sovs, but is. confined, to 4.3? class horses, as against 4.36 last year, and this class is v also a second slower than the Dominion Handicap, 4.34 class, to be ran at Addington in November. No stake on the three days Auckland programme is .of , less Value than 400 sovs. -The principal races include, the Summer Cup Handicap ot 1000 sovs, two miles, 4.30 class, and the President's Handicap, of 1000 '■~ wvs, two miles, 4.28 class. -The As•ociation. Trot Handicap, of 600 eoya, tor unioppied trotters to-be run on the last day ofthe Meeting, is for 4.36 class i iorsei. ~

Mr F. C. Thomas has been appointed handieapper for trotting events at the North Canterbury Racing Club's Meeting.

In being placed on 72yds behind, or on 4.30 in the Bollard Handicap at Wellington, Looh Moigh has not paid dearly for his win in the Heatkcote Handicap at Addington laßt month, in which race, handicapped on 4.32, he registered 4.29. While Loch Moigh has only gone back two seconds for his win Kingcraft has paid a much heavier penalty. The latter, handicapped on 4.38, went 4.28 4-5 when he won the Islington Handicap, and is now on 4.30 For winning a race worth 400 sovs Kingcraft has been penalised Bsec, and Loch Moigh has gone back two seconds for a win in a race worth 500 sovs. According to the Wellington handieapper, Mr Geo. Paul, Native Chief is a better sprinter than Great Bingen, for in the A T ew Zealand Cup Trial of one and a quarter miles, the gelding is handicapped on 2.41, and Great Bingen on 2.42. Either would have to be at his best to win a race of this description. Although it is seldom that a straight trotter wins a mile saddle race, Tamerlane is to be given the opportunity in the Stewards' Handicap at the Wellington Meeting. Handicapped on the limit of a 2.16 class, such a brilliant trotter would have a royal chance if at his best on the day.

There are some improving horses engaged in the Wellington Handicap of two miles, 4.47 class, and these include Real Light, a six-year-old chestnut gelding by Nelson Bingen—Ellawood, from C S. Donald's stable. Real Light start: ed but once last year when he won the Southland Handicap at the Forbury Park Summer Meeting. On that occasion he was never extended and a 4.44 mark does not look beyond him.

In connexion with the handicaps declared for the Wellington Spring Meeting the following corrections are made in°'the Borough Handicap: Alexis, Awaiti, Beverley Audubon, Lady Author, Medusa, Myrtle Dillon, Sunfish Svlvie Logan and Welcome Pearl are' oil the limit and not 12yds as stated.—Press Association.

Marjoram, Meadow Lark, and Despot also figure in the concluding event, -but if the trio be produced m the above, an interesting race shouia be witnessed. On a soft track Mari6ram, one of the Catmint tribe, will be favoured, but with firm conditions Meadow Lark has prospects of beating the, North Islander. The issue "»«*«» to rest between the three named, witn a preference for Meadow Lark. .

2.5 p.m.—OTAGO HUNT CLUB'S STEEPLECHASE HANDICAP, of 150 sovs. About 2}m. „ ... - Lochella .. 12 9 Message Boy 10 5 Ranui ..12 1 Ramamrwhin 10 0 Classens ~11 6 Tycho .. 10 0 Nylotis ~10 6 Koremata .. 10 O Romance ' .. 10 5

Four of this field are in the Brockville Steeplechase, and much will depend on their programme. Ranui and Message Boy will again measure strides, and weight conditions point to the latter's prospects. Tycho appears the best of the remainder.

2.45 p.m.—JOCKEY CLUB HANDICAP, of i ... 180 sovs. lm. Taboo *. 0(3 Eaton Bells.. 7 13 Battlement ... 811 Miss Winkle ... 712 Overdrawn ..'8 3 Bonaki -.'.. 7 7 iPlnk Terrace 8 0

If Taboo starts in this race, he will Se in -keen demand with 9.8 on his back, and his only opposition is likely to come from- Miss Winkie. Overdrawn will also be in favour.

4.5 STEEPLECHASE HANDICAP, of 125 sovb. About 2m. Tuki' .. 12 13 Oassells ... 10 7 Jovial '-.. 11 18 Royal Wink 10 . 6 Ranui .. 11 3 Nylotis ..97 Thistlecrown 10 11 Koremata .., 9 ( 0 . Tuki has a big weight to carry in the open cross-country event and two miles/may prove too short for him. Jovial has the best credentials over .the journey, and will probably be favourite while Ranui (if reserved) will not lack support. Royal Wink was > gome well when he fell on the opening day a* Riccarton, and if he has recovered from the fall,' he also will be seriously considered. Form, however, suggests Jovial, Ranui, and Tuki.

4.40 p.m.—HUNTERS'' FLAT HANDICAP,

of 125 sovs. 15m. King Sol' ..12 5 Armchiiir .. 01C Pink Rosa .. 11 9 Galway .. 9 9 Goldtown .. 10 9 Dmtsli .. 9^-9 Incursio - .. 9 13 Osramba .. V 7 Exido .. '9 12 Whiffler ..97 A poof lot will parnde for this event, arid t*eir form can be gauged by the fact that the ancient King Sol is at the head of the list with 12.5 in a 9.7 minimum. Pink Rose would have pros, jpects if he were in good order, but he has been very sore lately. Exide ran second to Pink Rose at Waimate, and he appears the likely candidate, and should contest the finish with the bot-tom-weight, Whiffler.

5.15 p.m.—VAUXHALL HANDICAP, of 115
