LAWN TENNIS.

CLUB FORMED AT WAIMAIRI. A public meeting was held at the Waimairl School last night to'consider the formation of a tennis club in connexion with the two school courts. Mr H. Tillman, chairman o£ the School Committee, and convener of the meeting, said the'idea of forming a club on the school courts was not a new one. There were several flourishing school clubs in the North Island, and in many cases in and around Ohristchurch swimming clubs had been formed in connexion with school baths. Regarding the use of the courts by tho school ohildren, their interests would be safeguard-' ed, and free membership would be given to the boy and girl highest on the school tennis ladder. The School Committee would also receive a certain amount of revenue from the club, and would also be relieved of the upkeep of the courtß. After a discussion it was decided to form a club, subject to the conditions laid down by the School Committee, and to be called the Waimairi Tennis Club. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr L. B. Hart; president, Mr G. Radford; vice-preßidents, Messrs H. Holland, M.P., 3. K. Archer, H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., A. McLauchlan, G. H. Thompson, J. Tulloch, T. S. Holmes, G. Morrison, V. Greenslade, T. Hookham, and Mis T. E. Taylor; secretary, Mr A. Thorn; treasurer, Mr R. D. Rule; committee, Messrs K. Mulholland, J. Thorn, Mrs S. 'Smith, Mrs R. D. Rule, Mlbs G. Dalley, and Miss L. Nightingale. • The subscription was fixed at £1 5s for senjor members and 15s for juniors under 18 years of age. The opening day- was fixed for October oih.
