♦ — MAGISTERIAL. MOJSDAY. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender for drunkenness was fined the amount of his bail, 80s, and costs, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. MANY CHAB.GES. David William Lamond, WMliam Henry McAlistar, and William Walter O'ConneU were charged with being rogues and vagabonds in that they were found without lawful excuse in a building, the drolling ot Rosa George, 14 Truro street, Christchurch. The accused were also charged with the theft of two boxes of chocolates, valued at £l. the property of Rosa George; and with wilfully damaging two cups valued at 2s and a paling fence to the value of 10s, the property of Roßa George, thereby commit- ■ Ung mischief. McAlister was further charged with striking one, John Aya with a bottle and with the theft of a shirt valued at 7s 6d. Lamond also faced charges of assaulting a police constable in the execution of his duty and assaulting John Aya by striking him with his clenched fist. Mr C. S Thomas appeared for accused, entering a formal plea of not guilty. After evidence bad been heard, the rogue and vagabond charges were amended to charges of being illegally on premises, Mr Thomas altering the pleas to these charges, of guilty. "You're a' disreputable trio," said the Magistrate, "and there is only one thing to do when you get up to these tricks." On the first charges, each accused was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment with hard labour. On the assault charge, McAlister was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment with hard labour, and on the charge of the theft of the shirt he was convioted and discharged. For wilful damage, all three were sentenced to seven days' imprisonment with hard labour. Lamond, for assaulting the police constable, was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment with hard labour. The charges of the theft of the chocolates and the charge of assault against Lamond were dismissed. TRAFFIC CASES. For cycling on the footpath, the following wero fined:-Ralph S. Ashby 10s, Henry Gunns 10s, Gordon Jones 10s, Kenneth U. McLelian 10s, Leonard Bradbury 5s and costs, Leonard Do Roo 5s and costs, G. D. Maindouald 10s and costs, G. W. Scott 10s and costs, G. H. Withell 10s and costs, Robert McCammon 10s. For driving vehicles at night without lights, the following wero fined:—William L. Bellingham 10e, Joseph Higgs 10s. For overloading vehicles, George Anson and Sydney Branch were each fined 5e and costs. For not keeping to the left of a traffic dome, Charles Cawper was fined 30s and costs. For cutting a corner, James Lilly was fined 20a and costß. For stopping a vehiole before bringing it to the loft-hand side of the road, Fred A. Boyes was. fined 10s and coste. On a similar chargo, W. L. Short was fined 5a and costs. For causing obstruction, George Watts was fined 10s and costs. For leaving motor-cars parked over the time limit, Reginald M. Adams was fined 8& and costs, Charles Marks was ordered to pay costs, and Margaret Smith was fined 10s and costs. John Muir was fined 20a and costs for not having efficient brakes H. W. Rofe was fined £2 and costs for having a noisy exhaust on his motor-cycle. On a similar charge Thomas Downes was fined 10s and costs; and was convicted and discharged for driving without a license. John William Howard was fined 5s and costs for driving a motor vehicle without a license. For speeding, T. W. Hogg was fined JBI and costs, and Henry F. Sharpe was fined 10s and costs. For crossing a railway lino while against the signal of the . crossing-keeper, Pauline Bennett was fined £2 and costs. BUILDING BREACHES. Ernest Friedlander, for-erecting a building without a permit, was fined £2 and costs, and was convicted and discharged for permitting a building to bo occupied, contrary to the regulations. Craven Wilkinson, on tho. same chargeß, was similarly dealt with. (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) MAINTENANCE OASES. . James Sinclair, for.disobedience of a.maintenance order, was convicted'and sentenced to seven days' imprisonment, the warrant hot to issue so long as defendant pays' 6s a Week off, the arrears,' in addition to current maintenance... i -, »_. John Wood, for disobedience of a maintenance order, was convicted and sentenced to three months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so. long as he pays 17s 6d a week off the. arrears, in addition to current maintenance. Thomas Lynn (Mr W. J. Stacey) ; was ordered to pay ,5s a week as maintenance for a destitute near relative. Mary McLaughlin' proceeded against her husband, Michael. McLaughlin, for separation and maintenance orders, on the ground that defendant had wilfully failed to maintain her. The orders were granted, and maintenance was fixed at 5s a week. HARBOURING CHARGES. Further evidence in connexion with harbouring two girls who escaped from an institution was heard, when eight defendants appeared on twenty-five charges. The offences were committed in January and February of this year, the defendants being Victor Robert Blackburn (three charges), George Boloski (two charges), Albert Crozier (two charges), ,Ernest Crosier (four charges), Alfred Langley Phillip Gibbens (four charges), James Hannan (four charges), George Quaid (four charges), and Oharles Timothy Rogal (t<vo charges). Chief-Detective J.' Carroll prosecuted. Mr F.. D: Sargent appeared for Blackburn and Gibbens, and Mr W. F. Tracy for the remain* mg defendants. After hearing the evidence his Worship fined '• Blackburn £lO on one charge, -and convicted and discharged him on the other two. The informations against Boloski and Albert Crozier were dismissed. Ernest Crozier was fined £5 on. each of three charges, and was convicted and discharged on the fourth. On one charge Gibbens was fined £5, and was convicted and discharged on the other three. Hannan was fined £2O on one charge, £5 on another, wsb convicted and discharged on the third, and was discharged on the fourth. Quaid was fined £7 on one charge, and was convicted and discharged on the remaining three. Rogal was fined £5 on each of two charges.
