PLANS COMPLETED. <7flp:X OVS, OWH COHBESPCXBEKT.) • SYDNEY, August. S. Delegates to the Eucharistic Congress at Sydney aro expected to reach Sj'dney from overseas by about the middle of this month. The Papal Legate, Cardinal Cerretti, and his suite are expected by the Orama on August 30th. About 40,000 interstate and country visitors are expected to visit Sydney for the congress. Father Meany said yesterday that, although the difficulty of housing the thousands of visitors for the congress would be great, it would be solved by billeting many of them in the homes of Roman Catholic residents.
The Programme. The following will be the order of the functions: — Sunday, September 2nd: Opening of St. Mary's Cathedral by Cardinal- Cerretti. Congress Tridium starts in all Sydney churches.. Monday afternoon, September 3rd: Reception to the Papal Legate, Cardinal Bonaventure Cerretti, Tuesday evening, September 4th: Congress Tridium closes.. Civic dinner to Papal Legate. ' , Wednesday, September sth: Solemn opening of Congress in the Cathedral. [National assemblies and conventions in the evening, Thursday, September 6th: Opening Mass at St. Mary's, at 10 a.m. Solemn exposition of the Blessed Sacrament begins, and continues day and night until Sunday: Afternoon: General assemblies and international discourses at the Town Hall, Waverley Church, St. Patrick's Hall, city, and the Australian 'Hall.. Evening Men's night at E, A. Showground. Friday, September 7th: 10 a.m. children's Mass, Showground. Afternoon: General assem" les and international discourses.. Evening: National assemblies and< conventions. »
Saturday, September Bth: 8 a.m. children 's general ■ Communion, St. Mary's. 10 a.m., women's Mass at Showground. Afternoon: Discourses. Evening: Confessions in all, metropolitan churches. j Sunday,;; September 9th: 6 a.m. till 8.30 a.m. general Communion of men of friendly socie'ties in St. Mary's, followed by v Communion breakfast; 10 a.m., open-air solemn Pontifical High Maw "at St. Patrick's College, Manly, and in St. Mary's;". 1.30 pjn., procession of boats,from Manly; 2.30, procession from Circular Quay through Macquarrie street, St. James place, Elizabeth Park, and College streets, passing western door yof St: Mary's, where Papal Legate will close congress with solemn benediction df the Blessed Sacrament. .Monday, September 10th: Grand sociafc'function at Palais Eoyal.
The Procession. The procession will be composed of three "sections, the first section from Manly. College to:-Manly wharf,''■the second from Manly wharf via the harbour to Manly wharf at" Circular Quay, and the third from the Quay to St. Mary's Cathedral. The harbour procession will consist of three Manly ferry steamers, .which, have: been chartered for the occasion. The boats will steam abreast part of the journey, and will make the remainder of their passage in single filjdown a lane, the sides of which will be composed of all kinds '< of craft containing;' sightseers. •' At; one pdint the lane will be'composed of two lines of 40 dressed boats which are being specially decorated by the Italian community: '■>■ --::.;; > i ;..;.,:'; During the procession across the harbour the Host will bo carried in a temporary, chapel erected : on one of • the steamers, which will be painted in gold and white, the Papal colours, and* on v?Mch there-will also be two enormous white crosses. This steamer, in addition to flying the Australian flag, will also fly the Papal flag. The procession from the Qrfay to St. Mary's Cathedral will be composed of 25,000 members of the various Roman Catholic societies.
