WHIPPET RACING.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the National Whippet Racing Association of New Zealand was held night at Biccarton, the following being present:—Messrs J. B. D. Johns (president), A. H. Forbes (vice-president), V. J. Drake (Canterbury), A. B. Oliffe (Manawatu), B.f J. Fitzsimmons (Canterbury), P. A. Kortegast (Westland), G. Biltcliff (Southland), and Mrs F. B. Biltcliff (hon. secretary). • . The annual report stated that three clubs had been affiliated during .the past year, whilst a number of race meetings under permit and exhibitions had been held in different . parts of New Zealand. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £27 16s.

The-report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr J. K. D. Johns; vicepresident, Mr A. H. Forbes; honorary treasurer, Mr V. J. Drake; honorary secretary, Mrs F. E. Biltcliff; members :of committee, Messrs P. A. Kortegast, A. J. Harper, W F Gienfell, G. Biltcliff, and H. J. Pitzsimmons. Mr E. J. Pitzsimmons (Canterbury) moved that a time limit and a penalty should be associated with the registration. of litters. 'After some discussion -it was decided* that a fine of £1 should be imposed upon all owners who fail to register their litters within one month of whelping, and that all pups in unregistered litters shall sot be allowed to run in classic events.

Two remits were tabled regarding the weight-limit of racing whippets. It was agreed to allow dogs up to 281b to race until March Ist, 1931. The president moved that the committee should .consist of a president, a vice-president, a treasurer, a secretary, and five other members, not more than three if whom shall represent either North or South Island. (This was seconded by Mr P. Kortegast (Westland), and carried with one dissentient. The hon. secretary was granted an honorarium of five guineas.
