An excellent idea, to encourage ratepayers to save money for. the payment of rates has been adopted by the District Council, at Eastington, Durham. The Council has experienced considerable difficulty in receiving such payments since the coal stoppage. Five hundred money boxes, similar to. those supplied by banks, .have been distributed among ratepayers. The keys of the boxes will be kept by,collectors, who will. visit the houses periodically. The scheme is being watched with interest by other authorities, and should: it prove a success it may be extendjed to various parts of the country.
