THE ALL BLACKS.

RHODESIA DEFEATED

SUCCESSFUL ATTACKS.

DALLEY IN GOOD FORM.

(Special to Pezss Association.)

(Received, July 15th, 5.5 p.m.)

BULAWAYO, July 14. New Zealand had a run-away win over Rhodesia by 44 points to 8 to-day. There was brilliant sunshine and heat like a New Zealand summer's day. The game was played on a ground of hard, red dirt, before a crowd of 3000 people. An erratic breeze blew down the field. Finlayson replaced Cyril Bvownlie, who has not yet recovered from influenza. The first spell was nothing but a series of successful attacks by the visitors, but the home side almost held its own in the latter half. The All Black team was:— D. Lindsay. A. C. C. Robilliard, F. W. Lucas, C. A. Rushbrook. H. Lilburne, L. Johnson W. Dalley. G. Scrimshaw. J. Hore J. Swain M. Brownlie G. T. Alley I. Finlayson E. Snow W. E. Hazlett The Game.

The game had not been going long before, from an opening from a scrum near Ehodesia 's twenty-five, a pass went to Johnson and then to Lilburne, who raced over near the posts and Lindsay converted. A number of whirlwind attacks by both the New Zealand forwards and the backs was followed by Johnson kicking down-field, having secured the ball from the ruck. Robilliard picked up and passed to Lucas, who was tackled with the ball. Scrimshaw, backing up, took the ball on the bounce and scored behind the posts. Lindsay made the total ten. . , The New Zealand forwards made matters lively, and from a melee on the home side's line, Brownlie went over. Lindsay just missed with the kick from the touch-line. , ' Rhodesia took a spell at attack and a short punt over the heads of the New Zealand backs created an interstation, but Lindsay cleared and pretty in-and-out New Zealand backs placed the visit ors once more in a threatening position However, many mistakes followed until from a scrum Dalley passed to Johnson who ran through a gap .to score under the posts. Lindsay converted. A minute later Dalley ran .from a scrum and passed to Johnson, who again scored. Lindsay goaled. Snow obtained possession of the- ball, following the kick-off, and threw £ half-way across the field to Lucas, uu tiatina a spectacular movement in whS'the bTwas handled by EohJliard, Lucas again, lilburne am, and finallv Finlayson, who oompletea the /ffort y Lindsay fried to convert. Snow was again responsible for a neat opening, sending Scrimshawjway from the nick. Tht latter passed to Rushbrook and the Wellington man scored an easy try Lindsay goaled, making the score at half-time All Blacks . • • • 3 * Rhodesia • • ..nil Second Spell.

The opening of the second half Ehodesia indulging in serious tackling, with the consequence that the nrstte-w All Blacks' attacks were smashed. Ihen fortunes changed. Rhodesia started to throw the ball about in the New Zealand style, play hovering ori the New Zealand line for a time. Rushbrook was caught offside under the posts and Thompson landed a goal New Zealand revived their whirlwind tactics, and after a series of spectacular movements Johnson cut in after getting Dalley'a pass from a scrum and sent Robilliard over far out.- Lindsay missed the attempt to convert. Hazlett's turn to score came next. Dalley sent Johnson away from a scrum. The ball came bock to Dalley, who gave it to Hazlett, and the Southland man had a clear run in. Lindsay converted. The greatest excitement of the match came when Rhodesia scored a clever try. Mcintosh intercepted a pass and, kicking neatly over Lindsay's head, Mowed up and scored under the posts. Thompson goaled. There was a bit of mixing among the forwards, then the Rhodesia backs started to open up again, but there was no finish to their movements. Brownlie got away from the ruck and passed to Scrimshaw. Possession was then transferred to Lucas, who sidestepped and swerved his way through to score the last try of the match. Lindsay converted. The game ended: All Blacks .. ..44 Rhodesia .. ..8

Still Beaten for Ball Rhodesia might be said to b3 "babies" at Rugby. They know little about the finer points of the game. The All Blacks, throwing the ball about in true New Zealand style, overran their opponents easily in the first half. In the second spell Rhodesia, copying tie New Zealand tactics, played a fast, open game with the wind behind them, but they could not finish off their movements.

Dalley played a fine game, feeding the backs generously. Lflburne was uncertain, but got away in a couple of good openings. The three-quarter lme was seen in many spectacular movements, and Lindsay was always sound. Although the New Zealand scrummaging was improved to-day, the visitors were still beaten for the ball, and a surprising feature of the match was that Rhodesia had the better of 14 out of 27 I'ne-outs. This was the first time on the tour that New Zealand had been beaten in this department. Finhyson, Hazlett, Know, and Brownlie played good football. The team leaves to-morrow for Johannesburg, where the Te,st side will start hard training.
