LAWN TENNIS.
JUNIOR B COMPETITION.
With only one m6re round to be played, Linwood are leading in the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's junior B competition, being the only undefeated team. Edgeware, with one loss, is the next team on the list, and meet Linwood next Saturday. Should the former team prove successful, three clubs,' Linwood, Edgeware, and Opawa, each with ono loss, will share honours, and a play-off will probably be necessary. Opawa have, play and win one set in their unfinished match with Fendalton to rank with the other two teams if Linwood is beaten on Saturday. The results were:—
LINWOOD v. ADDINGTON. (Linwood names first.) Singles—A. R. Cant beat D. G. Silvester, 6-2, 6-3; J. H. Griffiths.beat J. Fletcher, 6-3, 6-4' H. S. P. Andrews beat K. Burtt, 6-0, 6-2; H. S. Baron lost to M. Walls, 2-6, 4-6. Doubles —Cant and Griffiths beat Silvester and Fletcher, 6-2, 6-2; Andrews and Baron lost to Burtt and Walls, 1-6, 3-6. Linwood won by four matches to two.
EDGEWARE v. FENDALTON. (Kdgeware names first.) Singles—L. Armstrong heat J. W. D. Fisher, 6-2, 6-2; C. L. Richards beat h. Stevens, 6-5, 6-1; L. Wilkinson lost to L. Jewell, 6-4, 5-6, 4-6; L. Harker beat G. O. Wake, 6-4, 6-3. Doubles—Armstrong and Harker beat Fisher and Wake, 6-5, 6-0. The other double was not played. Edgeware won by four matches to one.
OPAWA v. SOOTH CHBISTCHURCH. (Opawa names first.) Singles—N. Tregear beat N. Betteridge, 6-2, 6-3; K. C. White beat W. Tindall, 6-2, 6-0: 'R. A. Sowden beat J. Hood, 6-1, 6-0; O. Tregear beat J. L. Myers, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Doubles—N. Tregear and White beat Tindall and Hood, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1; Sowden and 0. Tregear beat Betteridge and Myers, 6-3, 6-4. Opawa won by six matches to none. St. Stephen's won by default from Avonside 11. Shirley won by default from St. Albans. The match between Avonside I. and Ascot was not played.
