"HIGH SCHOOL HERO."

♦ A CLASSIC OF THE CAMPUS. EVERYBODY'S, TO-DAY. Photoplays of the race track, the war, the circus, the mythical kingdom have been produced so often that it has nearly come to pass that it is a bold man who can look a .horse, a war. a clown, or in king in the face. 'Too often have these pictures be the; ever so charming, been produced ior the screen, and so it comes as a most agreeable surprise to see the high Bchool, in lieu of Yalo or Harvard, being honoured: with the attentions of the films in the Fox production, "The High School Herb," which will be presented at Everybody 8 Theatre to-day, there Is that; charming mixture of youth and romance, spirit, and ambition, callow drama with genuine tnrills, all so astutely combined as to : waft the enthralled . specta'oi back 'to those days when he himself so quarrelled, and ned, and made awkward love to his fairest classmate, as do the very human and amusing young people in this original little picture. The film waa taken in the grounds and classrooms of a prominent Califoroian School, and the fact that Charlea Paddock, the world's champion sprinter, takes the part of the school coach, is no .mean factor in the interest which the . picture has aroused wherever it has been shown. To be sure, te lives of Amarican high school students appear to be an assured mixture of stolen romance, amateur theatricals, and such hilarious adventures that can well inerit them the'famous epithet of a crowd of flaming youths and fascinating girls. Still, it is all moat amusing and alluring, this spectacle of youth having its voice, and insisting on being served; amusing and aliuring and diverting to the mind so long accustomed to sophisticated drawing-room comedies, and blitse dramas of the great world. It is a well-acted, well-directed picture, and sprightly Sally Phipps, as leading lady, is an actress with a future before her. The second picture is "The Taxi Dancer," with Joan Crawford in the title role, .and Owen Moore appearing in direct support. This is a particularly good picture that might have been a roraantio comedy, but that it wisely decided, half-way through, to be a good drama instead. It is tense and compelling, with a tinge of mystery that goes not ill with the general scheme of things. Joan Crawford acts well, but she dances even better The Select Orchestra, .under Mr Albert Bidgood's direction, will play the following musical programmerOverture, "Maritana" (Wallace), "Italian Symphony" (Mendelssohn); suites, "Enfantine" (Lardelli), "Symphonic Dances" (Grieg), "Sylvan Scenes" (Fletcher); selections, "Dancer in Bed" (Besley), "Ballet Music" (Eossini), "College Life" (HinricKs), "Marche Militaire" (Schubert), "Morris Dance" (Noble), "Vißsion of Salome" (Lake), fox trot, "Wimmint Ah!" (Warren); entr'acte, "My Ohio Home" (Henderson). Box plans are at The Bristol Piano Company, where seats may be reserved.
