ON HIGHER POWER.
3ZC'S NEW STATION. Arrangements have now been completed for the opening of broadcasting station 3ZC's new transmitting plant to-morrow evening. The Mayor (the Kev. J. K. Archer) has consented to open the station, and -will address listeners at 7.45 p.m. A special programme has been prepared for the opening session of the new station. Several artists who have not previously been heard over the air in New Zealand, as well as some performers who have proved highly popular frow 3YA, will broadcast. The new plant has been designed and constructed Mr F. H. Plominski, station engineer of Station 3ZC, and has been constructed entirely in Christchurch. The new plant has a particularly impressive appearance, being made of aluminium and plate-glass. The big motor-generator for the plant is another fine piece of Christchurch workmanship. Work is now proceeding on the construction of 3ZC's new short-wave transmitting plant, and it is hoped to have this in operation early in August. This will be the first short-wave plant in the Dominion to broadcast a regular schedule of programmes weekly, and arrangements are being made for a weekly Empire broadcast similar to those which have done so much to advertise Australia.
The wave-length of 3ZC will still be 250 metres, but its power will be increased from- to-morrow tt> 250 watts instead of 50 watts. The short-wave plant will transmit on a wave-length of 50 metres, and its power will be 250 watts. . The usual children's session will be presented on Tuesday evening from 6.30 and the official opening of the new station will take place at 7.45, when the Mayor will address listeners-in. There mil bo no sessions from the station to-day.
