Acceptances for the Ashburtun Winter Meeting, to bo held on Saturday next, at 8 p.m. to-day. Nominations for tlio Waimate District Hunt Club's Meeting close today. Much sympathy will be extended to G. J. Fine, private trainer to Mr G. Gerard, in the loss of his son, who was fatally injured on the Liccarton road yesterdayThere is a possibility that Mr A. J. Tutton may send Thorndale to bydney for the spring meetings and it so the gelding will go to a JLtanciwick stable, as his trainer, F. P. Claridge. who has a large team in commission fit present, would be unable to make the trip. Centrepiece has been disposod of by Sir George Clifford and will probably fulfil stud duties in the Marton district.

• The Solferino rising three-year-old, Groat Star, has built into one of the most attractive youngsters at, present in commission at Riccarton, and his prospects for next season's racing look very favourable. Hyperion lias not pleased his connexions with his recent track efforts over the country and his proposed trip to Ashburton may not be undertaken. J. Campbell has again settled at Riccarton, and has joined up with H. purse's stable.

J. .McCombe, who has recently erected new stables near the Riccarton racecourse, is at present handling two rising two-year-olds by Cliief liuler from leading Lady and Subterfuge, respectively.

Oriflamb (12. Shaw) was again schooled at Iticcarton yesterday morning; giving a faultless exhibition over three brush fences, including the double. iladiac is still on the doMbtful list and is not likely to be produced in the Dromore Steeplochase at Ashburton on Saturday next.

The Riccarton light-weight, A. H. Eastwood, who completed his .apprenticeship this month, was married in ChriStchurch on Thursday last.

Prince Humphrey and Ti-tree, belonging to Air C. G. Macindoe, are to bo sent to Sydney next week to race there. Prince Humphrey is in the A.J.O. Derby, and if all goes well he will "be a starter in that event. In England they must still be scared of "dopers" and other evilly-disposed individuals. According to cabled news. Fairway, Flamingo, Camelsford, and Bubbles 11. were guarded overnight, and up to the time they went to the post iot the Derby, by 20 foot police and six mounted men. Subject to passing a veterinary examination, Eden Hall has been sob through a Hawke's Bay agency to go to Australia. The price is a satisfactory one, in . tho region of four figures. Beau Cavalier has freshened up again after his three severe races 1 at the Northern meeting, and is now bowling along in his usual free style in his track work at Ellerslie. It is possible that Beau Cavalier will be given a race on. the flat attlie'Te Kuiti Meeting.

In commenting on the Derby race, a London message to the Sydney "Sun" states that early arrivals at Epsom found groups of men, women, and children huddled together in indistinguishable heaps for warmth, lying along the ralis, keeping a good position to see the great race. Many had been thore since the last race the previous day.' Girls were among those wlio slept, in caravans and tents, and under tne trees in front of the grandstand. Oldworld coaches gave a picturesque touch to the never-ending procession of traffic to Epsom. The first air-party, from Paris arrived at 10 o'clock, and motor* ,ed direct to Epsom from the more remote Crovdon. After the Darby they were to aine in Paris.

Red Fuchsia is engaged in the two leading hurdle races set down for decision at the Wellington Racing Club's "Winter Meeting, and he' may, therefore, be expected to make a reappearance on the scene at Trentham next month. The All Red gelding has been ono of the most consistent performers of the present season. The record down against his name shows that he hns contested 23 faces at five years old, and lie has won 11 of his .engagements, while he has been second four times and third three times. Bed Fuclisia won the Remuera Hurdle' Race at Ellerslie on the 4th instant under 11-3 in attractive stylo, so that he has recent form to keep in mind for events ahead.

TROTTING NOTES. Although Waikaha defeated Young Blake in the Stewards' Trot Handicap ion Saturday, the Auckland handicapper is not prepared to make any allowance to the Canterbury gelding for the defeat. In the handicaps for to-morrow's race Young Blake is still set to give Waikaha 12 yards. Gold Jacket goes back from a 4.31 mark to 4.28 in the Prince of Wales Handicap for his win on the opening day of the Auckland Meeting, but neither Peterwah nor Dalmeny, who filled the minor placings, have had their handicaps altered. The race for the Two-year-old Trotting Challenge Stakes between Koro Peter and First Wrack will bo decided after the Adams Cup Memorial to-mor-row. First Wrack, a brilliant vonng trotter at his best, has had an interrupted preparation, and Koro Peter is likely to be favourite on the totalisator.
