A SCIENTIFIC PURPOSE.

CAPTAIN WILKINS'S OBJECT. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BI ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPyRIOHT.) OSLO, May 21. Captain George Wilkins says his object* in Polar exploration is less to discover land than to obtain meteorological data for the benefit of the world. For example, he desires to assist Australia in precautions against drought, and thus save their hundreds of . thousands of sheep. This is one of the objects of his South Polar expedition. Senator Marconi assured him that by the use of the short-wave radio system the transmission of weather reports is feasible. The German Government is sending a special aeroplane to Oslo, in which Captain Wilkins and Pilot Carl Ejelson will fly to Berlin. —Australian Press Association.
