THE JUBILEE.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETS. A meeting of the Jubilee Executive Committee was held yesterday afternoon, when the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer) occupied the chair. The secretary of the Cathedral Belllingers' Association wrote saying that a band had been selected to ring, and asking if it were desirable to ring at 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday e'vening to mark the close of the celebrations. It was agreed to reply saying that if the bellringers were willing to play, the committee would be glad to accept their offer, Mr Bean land asked what arrangements had been made in regard to the laying of the foundation stone of the new Art Gallery. He said that a chain and tripod should certainly be arranged for the foundation stone. It was stated that a wooden platform would be erected and the ceremony conducted from there. Mr B'eanla'nd was appointed to make necessary arrangements in regard to the laying of the foundation stone. Mr J. S. Neville remarked on the time that had been fixed for the pioneers' tea (4.30 p.m.}, saying that he thought it could well be put forward a.i hour. 3lr C. H. Clibborn (Entertainment Committee) said that that could be reviewed, and indeed if necessary it would be. He would like to say in explanation that the time fixed had been agreed upon at the susreestiou of representatives of the Pilgrims' Association. It was decided that the chairmen of the committees should take part in the procession. Mr Beanland reported that it had been arranged to have 20 Maoris brought to Christchurch to take part in the celebrations. On behalf of his-committee, Mr Clibborn asked for leave to repeat the Jubilee entertainment if it was so desired. The matter was left to the Entertainments Committee to make its own arrangements.
