AERO CLUB.

FOUNDATIONS LAID. AN ENTHUSIASTIC /MEETING. The committee set up to establish the Canterbury Aero Club held its inaugural meeting last night, and judging by the enthusiasm it will not be long before aviation takes its place in Canterbury beside other sports and hobbies, as being within the reach of most persons, including women. The business last night was to consider a constitution presented by Mr F. W. Johnston on behalf of a sub-com-mittee. It was slightly amended and adopted. There were present: Mr Norton iTancis (ehairman), Professor P. Powell, Commander Boyle, Colonel M. M. Gard'ner, Messrs A. E. Galbraith, A. L. Macfarlane, N. Vale, E. Vincent Smith, H. S. E. Turner, C. W. Hervey, W. Williamson, B. K. Palmer, W. R- Carey, D. C. Crozier, F. W. Johnston, and P. E. Climie. The name of the Club shall be "The Canterbury Aero Club" (Incorporated). Its Objects. The main objects of the Club as set forth are: — (1) To promote and encourage aviation and any art, craft, trade, or profession connected therewith. (2) To undertake and exercise control of all competitions, sporting events, and trials in connexion with aeronautics in the district of Canterbury and elsewhere. (3) To promote and hold aeronautical meetings, competitions, matches, exhibitions, and trials, and to offer prizes, medals, and awards, and to support dinners, concerts, balls, lectures, and other entertainments. (4) To acquire any lands, buildings, which may be requisite for the purpose of, or conveniently used in connexion with, any of the objects of the Club. (5) To provide flying grounds and maintain the same for aviation or other purposes of the Club and to provide club houses, pavilions, workshops, sheds, and other conveniences.

(6) To represent generally the view of persons connected with aeronautics. | Officers and Membership, I The officers of the club shall consist of a patron, president, vice-president, lion, treasurer, and ten members of the Committee, three of whom shall be qualified pilots. Provision is also made for the appointment of a paid secretary. Any man or woniari interested in aeronautics is eligible as a member of the Club. Members are classified thus: (1) Pilot members, holding a flying certificate, who shall be entitled to all the privileges of the club. (2) Pupil members, being men or women awaiting or undergoing flying training by the Club. (3) Social members, being men or women interested in the activities of the Club, who shall, subject as aforesaid, be entitled to all the privileges of the Club, including the use of the Club's grounds and appointments for private machines. (4) Visiting members being men or women visiting or temporarily resident in Canterbury, who shall subject as aforesaid be entitled respectively to the privileges of the Club according to the class of their membership, viz., pilot or social. (5) Honorary members, being persons to whom it is desirable to extend the privilege .of temporary membership. 'Persons of distinguished position or attainment will be elected life members. The first 200 members will be known as "Foundation Members," and will be admitted free of charge. Fees. The fees and subscriptions as at present fixed are: — (a) Pilot members, entrance, fee £2 2s, subscription £2 2s; (b) pupil members, entrance fee SI Is, subscription £2 2s; (c) social members, entrance fee £1 Is, subscription £1 1»; (d) visiting members: (1) Pilot, one week £1 Is, one month £2 2s, three months £3 3s; (2) social 10s 6d. The rules as amended will be presented to a general meeting for its approval.
